Our Mares
A strong foundation

Introducing our Appaloosa Mares, these emerging stars showcase their talents in the arena on the ranch. These dedicated companions possess fantastic temperaments and exceptional athletic skills. They will make exceptional broodmares - if we can ever get by without them on the ranch! Each of our mares comes from proud "Magnum" lineage, so stay tuned as we look for the next ladies to join Chuck's team!

Meet each one of the girls below.

Iris' story began when Adam had the opportunity to borrow Dial Alice as a walk/trot horse. He fell in love with her, so when he was asked if he'd like to try for a Magnum baby out of her, there was no hesitation. For the next 11 months, he couldn't wait for his colt to arrive...even though we kept telling him it could be a filly. The big day finally arrived and the announcement came that the baby was indeed a filly. Adam quickly softened on his view when he walked in to meet his new filly, still wet. He very proudly named her Dialed The Wrong Number - since she wasn't the colt he was hoping for. The pair has accomplished so much since that day and I am pretty sure he wouldn't trade this mare for a colt. Iris truly has everything - brains, beauty, and athleticism. She is a blast to show and work the ranch with and will continue to be in our show string for a few more years.

Katniss is the first of 5 from this cross and we liked her so much we just kept going! As a weanling, she slid into a fence and almost didn't make it due to the damage to her legs. Abby took over after her return from the vet clinic and the rest is history. Katniss spent a few years on the back burner - both because we were taking it slow with her after her injury and because Abby was actively showing Johnnie. Things changed a bit mid summer 2024 when Katniss moved up to Abby's primary horse. She had a lot to learn both on the ranch and in the show ring, but made a lot of progress. Katniss is a big moving, honest mare with a lot of potential. She will do the regular slate of classes with the hopes of some over fences work in the future. Katniss will move up as a senior horse in 2025 and that will present another set of challenges but nothing they won't overcome. This pair will be rather unstoppable in the future!

You have to pay attention when you head out to pasture. Sarah and Katniss look more alike the older they both get. 2024 was a big year for Sarah with a lot of firsts and learning experiences - all of which she handled with the excellent dispositions and level head our Magnum's are known for. Her experiences around the ranch and in the show pen will continue to grow and we feel she will make a talented partner in both cases. She is also a big, free moving mare with a natural ranch-y look to her and her highlighted mane and tail just add it. Katy had a lot of fun with her this past summer showing her the ropes, and they should be a good team for years to come. The judges will have to take a second look when the girls come in on matching horses!

Dun It In Fun
2021 Chestnut Leopard Mare ApHC #691827
Dun It In Poco Docs x Mystic Holly
HYPP N/N - PSSM1 N/N - GBED N/N - HERDA N/N - MH N/N - IMM N/N
ee (Red) - aa (Agouti) - Lp/lp - PATN/PATN
This mare is an exciting addition and will be Katy's future show horse. Annie is correct and built to perform while being wrapped in a pretty, colorful package. Her sire, Dun In Poco Docs, goes to YOR White Hot, Hollywood Dun It, and FV Funny Face - none of them need an introduction! Her dam, Mystic Holly, is a Bronze Medallion earner and by Mystic Print a well known multi Supreme Champion sire. Annie has not made it to the show ring herself...yet! Katy is eager to get her started this year and hoping she will make it in the pen. She also has dreams of crossing her on Chuck in the future for some colorful, super talented foals! Either way, Annie has an exciting future and we cannot thank Folgate Appaloosas enough for helping make her purchase possible!
There will be more (and updated) pictures coming when our weather straightens out!

Totally Magnetized
2016 Gold Champagne Blanketed Mare ApHC #681019

HYPP N/N - PSSM1 N/N - GBED N/N - HERDA N/N - MH N/N - IMM N/N - CH/ch (Champagne) - ee (Red) - Aa (Agouti) - Lp/lp
Pippi was a planned surprise. Her dam was called open twice and given her age, we turned her out to pasture. It was an exciting surprise when, one morning, Pippi was standing out there with her! She was a tiny little gal, and ended up having a bit of a rocky first few months. Pippi was then started as a 3 year old and our youngest daughter immediately took over and had Pippi in the show ring that year showing in hand and in walk/trot 10 and under. They became an awesome team in the coming years with many wins and awards with the ApHC and in 4-H. Pippi is a great hand on the ranch, as well, from trailing cows to roping calves. She is a thinker and enjoys working. In 2024 we discovered a stifle cyst, so Pippi took a lighter work load and was offered for sale. Sold
